Membership Information

REGISTRAR OF THE CDTA BC BRANCH (Bylaws 9.6)

The following information is for new applicants and is intended to guide you through the application process.

MEMBERSHIP  (article 2.2 and 2.3 CDTA Bylaws)

Membership in the Branch requires compliance with the CDTA Bylaws including Part 14 Code of Ethics, which includes the following.

A member must not:

  1. a) Make negative or disparaging remarks about another member.
  2. b) Solicit the pupils of another member, or
  3. c) Make any false, misleading or exaggerated publication or advertisement

 MEMBERSHIP CATEGORIES  

  1. Student Teacher 
  • Age 16 or older
  • Has successfully completed the requirements set by a Division and

Is in training to become a teacher recognized by a Division.

  • Must make arrangements to take the Associate examination within two years of acceptance into the Branch.  An extension of this time must be applied for in a written request to the executive with an explanation.  The executive will then deal with each request individually
  • Does not have the right to vote.
  • Cannot be a Director of the Society.
  • Cannot advertise himself or herself as a member of the Society or a Division without written consent of the Executive.
  1. Associate Member
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Has successfully completed the requirements set by a Division to become an Associate Member.
  • Has the right to vote and may become a Director.
  • Can only advertise himself or herself as a member of a specified Division or Divisions.
  1. Licentiate Member (Full Member)
  • Must be over 21  years of age
  • and had not less than 4 years of acceptable experience as a dance teacher.
  • Has successfully completed the requirements set by a Division to become a Licentiate Member.
  • Has the right to vote and may become a Director.
  • Can only advertise himself or herself as a member of a specified Division or Divisions.
  1. Fellow Member
  • Successfully completed the requirements of a Division to become a Fellow Member.
  • Been a Licentiate Member in good standing for not less than 3 years.
  • Has the right to vote and may become a Director
  • Can only advertise himself or herself as a member of a specified Division.
  1. Life Member
  • Is a person who has been a member for 30 consecutive years
  • Does not pay membership fees.
  • Has the right to vote.
  1. Patron Member
  • Is a person, corporation, association or other organization that has made a substantial contribution to the Society.
  • Does not have the right to vote.
  • Cannot be a Director of the Society.
  • Cannot advertise himself or herself as a member of the Society or a Division without written consent of the Executive.
  • Does not pay membership fees.
  1. Honorary Member
  • A person who has made an extraordinary contribution to the Society or to the advancement of dance teaching in British Columbia, and
  • Appointed for life, by resolutions for the directors of CDTA – National and of the Executive.
  • Does not pay membership fees.

APPLICATION PROCESS

  1. Please fill out the Application for Membership form and submit along with the required fee to the Registrar.
  2. The Registrar will notify you when the executive of the BC Branch has approved your application
  3. Following approval you may request a Request for Examination Form from the Division you wish to join. 

NEW MEMBERS

  1. Following successful completion of the membership examination you will receive notification for payment of the CDTA annual membership dues.
  2. Membership dues are prorated based on when your exam has been completed.
  3. Once the dues are paid you will be recognized as a Member of the Association and will receive your Certificate of Achievement, be listed on the Membership List and will be sent notices of Divisional meetings, the Annual General Meeting, and other activities organized by the Branch or your Division.
  4. Thereafter dues are paid annually at the start of the year.
