DVIDA® examination process used by CDTA is administered with the highest standards of fairness, impartiality, thoroughness, and professionalism. Your examination will be prepared in advance according to a system of universal standards of excellence for the dancing industry. You will need to work very hard to prepare for this exam, but if you make the commitment to yourself and to your career, the rewards will be tremendous.

Dance styles:
There are two dance styles which are American Style Smooth, consisting of the four dances : Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot and Viennese Waltz and American Style Rhythm: Cha Cha, Samba, Rumba, Mambo, Bolero, Merengue, East Coast Swing and West Coast Swing.

Membership Categories
In each style a number of membership categories are offered : *Student teacher; Bronze; Silver; and Gold. In Student Teacher categories the examination covers five of the Rhythm dances and four of the Smooth dances. In the Bronze, Silver and Gold categories the examination covers all eight Rhythm dances and the four Smooth dances.

*Student Teacher Examinations
The CDTA Ballroom Division is pleased to introduce the new Student Teacher Examination in either Smooth or Rhythm as a means of introducing members to the DVIDA syllabus at Student Teacher level. The full Bronze level must be taken within 2 years.

Modular system
The CDTA has also introduced the Modular System (One Dance at a Time) as a method of certification for Bronze, Silver and Gold similar to the International Style.

Certification in the CDTA as a member in American Style using qualifications obtained in another recognized society may be obtained in accordance with the guidelines given in the document “Recertification”.
